This three-hour seminar, provided annually by our California-licensed practitioners, will prepare Texas employers for the various requirements involved in employing workers in California. A detailed overview of California employment laws will be provided, with an emphasis on how they differ from Texas laws, and strategies for compliance. Specifically covered will be new laws for 2025, including:

  • Amendments to the California Private Attorney General Act (“PAGA”) (in effect since June 19, 2024)
  • Workplace Violence Protection Plans (in effect since July 1, 2024)
  • Ban of “Captive Audience” Religious, Political, and Anti-Union Meetings 
  • Expanded Protections for Independent Contractors
  • Expansion of Employee Protections for Crime Victims’ Leave
  • Protection for Intersectionality of Protected Traits
  • Requirement to Post Protections for Whistleblowers

Speakers

Scott Brutocao is a licensed California and Texas attorney who has been litigating employment cases and advising employers California for 30 years and in Texas for 24 years. He is also board certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is a frequent speaker on employment law topics throughout the state.

Laura Fauber specializes in representing employers in all aspects of labor and employment law, and she is licensed and practices in Texas, California, and Washington. She is a new partner to the firm, having previously practiced at two large international law firms in San Francisco and Austin as well as served as the Senior Director of Employment, Benefits, and Litigation at a public technology company in Austin.

Continuing Education Credit
