Details
This ninth annual seminar will prepare Texas employers for the various requirements for having employees in California. A detailed overview of California employment laws will be provided, with an emphasis on how they differ from Texas laws, and strategies for compliance. Specifically covered will be new laws for 2023, including:
- Pay Scale Information Disclosures: Pay transparency laws have finally spread to California.
- Expanded Pay Data Reporting Requirements: Expanded pay reporting for certain employers, requiring “median and mean hourly rate within each job category.”
- Privacy Overhaul: The California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) goes into effect on January 1, 2023, which means that covered employers will have to comply with the law’s notice and disclosure requirements, as well as giving employees the right to view, access, correct and delete their personal information.
- Leave of Absence Expansion: Both the California Family Rights Act and California’s Paid Sick Leave Law.
- Bereavement Leave Protection: Specific protection for bereavement leave, defining what it is and who gets it.
- Marijuana Use Protection: Cannabis protection added to the state’s anti-discrimination law (effective 1/1/24).
- “Reproductive Health Decision-making” Protection: Another protected category added in California.
- Protection for Employees with Safety Concerns: Employees have new rights to complain of unsafe conditions.
- COVID-19 Related Laws: Several helpful changes to the state’s COVID-19 notice requirements.
These laws, many others, and significant court decisions will be covered. Essential policies also will be discussed, and template forms and policies will be provided. The program includes Q&A as well.
